Out-of-Association Player Policy Competitive Teams

Applicability

This Out-of-Association Player policy applies to tryouts and team formation for all AA and A teams hosted by the Nepean Ringette Association.

Definitions

An “Out of Association” player is any player who, per Ringette Ontario rules, requires a Release from another association to be eligible to register with and play for Nepean. This is usually, but not always,

  • a player who resides within the geographic boundaries of and has played for another local association, or
  • a player who resides outside the geographic boundaries of any association in Ontario and has played for a local association other than Nepean.

A “Relocated Player” is a player who has played for another association during the previous season and who has relocated from a residence outside the geographic boundaries of Nepean Ringette to one within the boundaries of Nepean.

Policy

“Out of Association” players may try out for any Nepean Ringette competitive team provided that they are properly registered with their home association.

For U14AA and U16AA teams, Out of Association players must place in the top 80% of the team to be selected. A maximum of 3 Out of Association skaters (not goalies) will be considered for the final rosters at this level.

For U19AA teams, we select the best players available. As final selections are made by the head coach, there is an expectation that the Out of Association player is notably superior to any Nepean Ringette Association members being considered.

For A teams with more than 10 Nepean Ringette Association members who are skaters (not goalies) in the tryout process, Out of Association players (skaters) must rank in the top 50% of the final roster to be selected. A maximum of 2 Out of Association skaters (not goalies) will be considered for the final rosters at this level.

For A teams with 10 or fewer Nepean Ringette Association members who are skaters (not goalies) in the tryout process, Out of Association players (skaters) must place in the top 75% of the team to be selected.

Exceptions to this policy would apply to players from associations who are not fielding respective A or AA teams. Players from those associations would be considered if they are of calibre and place in the top 80% of the team to be selected.

For purposes of this policy, a player who has relocated to Nepean and, per Ringette Ontario rules, is eligible to file a “Player Relocation Form” will be considered to be a Nepean player.

GOALIES

Out of Association Goalies will be considered for A and AA teams if they are deemed to be of calibre for that level of play. If an Nepean Ringette Association goalie is deemed to be of calibre for that level, they will be provided with the initial spot. An Out of Association goalie may be selected if they are deemed to be notably superior to any Nepean Ringette Association members being considered.

Approval

This policy was approved by the Nepean Ringette Executive on 09-Mar-2022. Updated in March 2022.
